Music Man guitars and basses are historically tied to Fender founder and guru Leo Fender, who founded Music Man in the early 70’s with cooperation from former Fender employees. Known for both instruments and amplifiers, the product that put Music Man “on the map,” so to speak, was the StingRay Bass, designed by Leo Fender himself.
After years of tumult, Music Man was sold to Ernie Ball in early 1984. Leo Fender had long severed ties with the company he helped found, but Ball, himself a musician, longed to restore the company’s good name. Part of the success in the rebirth of Music Man was the long line of artist-endorsed instruments, all of which were received to solid critical acclaim. Such models include the Silhouette, the Steve Morse Signature, the Eddie Van Halen Signature (later known as the Axis), the Stingray 5, the Steve Lukather Signature, the Albert Lee Signature, and the John Petrucci Signature.
Though Music Man instruments have never had the sales volume of Fender or Gibson, they are nevertheless well-respected in the industry for their innovation and attention to quality. Music Man innovations include fast change pickup assemblies, piezo bridge pickups, low-noise pickups, teflon-coated trussrods, and sculpted neck joints.
Regardless of the Music Man instrument you’re looking for, whether it’s a StingRay bass or a Pettruci guitar, you can rest assured that Music Man guitars and basses will keep you satisfied for years to come.
