Ibanez has a long and storied history of making quality electric guitars (though they are also known for their TubeScreamer effects pedals as well). The modern period of Ibanez guitars began in the late 50s, and from then until the early 70s the company focused on copying popular guitar models from Gibson, Fender, and Rickenbacker. Eventually, Ibanez was sued by Gibson for some of its designs, and by the late 70s the company focused on its original designs, including the Ibanez Iceman.
Ibanez is an interesting guitar manufacturer in that their models have appealed to two seemingly disparate groups, jazz guitarists and hard rock or metal guitarists. For example, jazz masters George Benson and John Scofield are noted Ibanez endorsers, but so are shred-meisters Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, and all four have signature Ibanez models. Other Ibanez devotees include Paul Gilbert, Pat Methany, Andy Timmons, and Herman Li.
If Ibanez is known for anything, it is for the playability of their instruments. Indeed, Ibanez electric guitars are considered some of the best-playing instruments available, from the newer signature series to old Ibanez guitars such as the Iceman.
One minor problem in purchasing an Ibanez electric guitar is that they make so many guitars it can be difficult to differentiate between models. Current series include the RG, S (“Sabre”), ART, and Artist.
